Expedition
I traveled down to Florida to visit my friend in Fort Lauderdale (north of Miami) in order to get to another set of Away Buffalo Sabres games (Hockey). The plan was to see them play the Florida Panthers on Sat, then drive over to Tampa on Sunday to meet up with J and see them play again there. J had gone down ahead of me to visit with her aunt in Tampa, and I flew down on 04-08 to stay with my friend. There was a hash the day I landed, and it was only 5 miles/8 kilometers from the airport, but it was clearly in someone's backyard so I didn't attempt it.
With no viable hashes the rest of the week, we still had a great time eating good food, walking the beach and even a morning of kayaking in the intercoastal waters. The Sabres made it interesting during the Saturday game, but ended up losing in the shootout. For the drive over to Tampa in the morning, I found this hash that was practically on the way near Lakeland, FL. It looked like a wide open park with the hash near an old parking lot if I was reading the satellite pictures correctly.
Happy not to see any alligators while kayaking, I did get to see my first one in the wild on the drive that was hanging out in a large ditch that was filled with water along the highway. Getting to the park by the hash, I was disappointed to see tall fencing along the driveway and toward the parking area. At the parking area, we were able to get through the fence, but it was still a closed in area so we were only able to get within 272 feet/83 meters. There seemed to be a path that went around this area, but was going the wrong way and we had passed an intersection that led to a gate and toward the hash, but there were also signs over there indicating this section was posted and private property. That area seemed to hold the hash, and because we were on a schedule, I didn't try to take us around that earlier path to try to get closer. With the signs and fencing, I declared this a No Trespassing expedition, and we continued on our way to Tampa. If we had more time, we definitely would have explored a bit more, and may have been able to get a little closer, but I'm pretty sure we still would have been stopped by the fence before reaching the hash.
As we were leaving, I had F drive over to the other gate to take a picture of the Private Property sign and we saw a car parked there with someone getting things out of the car. It could have been a property owner, but with our time crunch, I didn't ask for permission to access. I also got distracted by the car and didn't look to see if this was closer to the hash that the other spot. Despite not making it, it was a fun trip visiting my friend.
The Sabres did terrible for the second game, but it really shouldn't be a shock since this is now the 14th season we have missed the playoffs. It's been a really hard time being a fan.
