Expedition

After my previous “Successful” expedition, I had a bit of a break. I was busy with work, I injured my back and no good hashes were near me. However, after 4 weeks of not hashing, it started to bug me. And then this hash came along.

Looking at the map, it seemed to be in a forest, kind of near a bus stop, and in my own graticule. Perfect to get back on the horse again. After work, I grabbed a train and went to Eindhoven. In Eindhoven, I took a bus to Valkenswaard, intending to get off at the main square. However, the bus stop is currently not in service, and won’t be until April 2025. The bus driver was kind enough to let me off at the next traffic light, all I had to do was jump over a small hedge.

The woods were about 10 minutes from Valkenswaard by foot, so they were quickly reached. However, about 5 minutes in, I encountered my first problem. A bit of steelwire indicating that I was not supposed to go there. Stubbornly, and repeating mistakes from the previous hash, I went around the steelwire and followed the path that was still there. About 100 meters later however, I found a real roadblock. A heavy fence, locked. Across a bridge. There was no way to go on from here without really trespassing and endangering myself.

However, on the right there was a path back to a road. So I took that and got to go through a gate to get back to where I was allowed to be. The hash still seemed reachable from here, so I followed the road and went back into the forest as soon as it was possible again. And basically, that was it. I walked along a straight path for 25 minutes, had to go left and into the woods to get the hash, then went back onto the path and walked back for 48 minutes to a bus stop to go home.

Not the most exciting expedition, but a good one. Valkenswaard is a good town, and the forest was nice. Glad to have an easy one to get back into it.
