Location
North edge of Cedar Park in Lake City.
Participants
Plans
Visit on the way to work (8:30); could make a quick stop at 4:30 on the way home also.
History
Cedar Park is actually the playground area for the former <http://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm&file_id=10479 Cedar Park Elementary>. According to that article, the school was closed in 1981 and the building leased to the Cedar Park Arts Center for a number of live-in arts studios. The western half of the property was then developed into Cedar Park and leased to the Seattle Parks Department under a long-term agreement. In late 2013, it was reported that the city was going to take over the site again. Steve Cole, Seattle Public Schools project manager, said he expects Cedar Park School to become its own elementary once again by the end of 2017.
Expedition
Reached the hash location easily, 8:25.
The sidewalk immediately north of the hashpoint was marked "closed", likely because it doesn't align with the access sidewalks (yet). After marking the point, I did wander up the closed sidewalk to add a chalk arrow directing lost geohashers to the actual point.
Speaking of the actual point, it ended up being against a wall supporting the ground near said sidewalk, resulting in a great vertical surface to leave a message.
After this, I surveyed the park and then the rest of the construction, taking photos from different locations (below). While the article from 2013 said this would open in 2017, it looks to me like they are going to be ready for September of this year. I also snapped a photo of the site change notice; perhaps a date is listed there.
All in all, a very easy geohash point and, if it were Saturday, a wonderful place for a meetup.
