Expedition

Danatar

Hashiversary! Even if this looked like a boring hashpoint from the satellite image, I again just had to go. I had to work till the evening, so I was expected to come in to work later than usual. This meant that the best time to visit the hashpoint was before work. From my usual route on the Autobahn I took a different exit and followed the Autobahn A71 to the Maßbach exit. From there it was along country roads to Großwenkheim, where I parked the car at the beginning of a field track. Then I took a nice walk across the fields. Most of them were bare, but I saw a maize field exactly where I judged the hashpoint to be. When I got nearer, I found out to my relief that the spot was in the meadow just next to that maize field. The grass was wet and so were my feet after a few metres, but I found the spot easily. After the pictures I walked back to the car and drove to work, which turned out more relaxed than usual.

While writing this report, I found out that my first hashiversary, exactly 3 years ago, was just south of Großwenkheim. On the way back from this hashpoint, I passed within 200 metres of the old spot, but as unaware as I was I couldn't revisit it.

Four years ago I made my first geohashing expedition, and so far I have made it to all hashiversary locations. In the past year, my fourth year of geohashing, I:

  • visited another 14 hashpoints (out of 16 tries) and 1 new graticule, in 1 new country
  • met 1 new geohasher
  • cycled 125.3 km, walked 28.1 km, used public transport for 82.8 km and motorized vehicles for 288.3 km
  • spent another 74 Euros while geohashing

Danatar earned the Fourth Hashiversary achievement
by attempting a hash point exactly on the Fourth anniversary of his inaugural geohashing expedition.
