Harlequin's Dad is former software geek turned manager, happily married husband and father of Harlequin,  Redmond resident and beer drinker. He earned the moniker "Zacksdad" in a D&D campaign years ago at the no longer extant Coyote Games store in Redmond (and hence the current moniker).  These days he prefers "casual" games like Settlers of Catan, Condotiere, Ticket to Ride and card games like Pinochle, Cribbage, Hearts and Spades. If he's not doing any of those things on a given weekend, you might find him sailing Puget Sound or reading a book.

Met up with Thomcat and Wnvoss.  The day before, I had prepped as follows: (1) established magnetic deviation for Seattle area as 18 degrees east. (2) Plotted magnetic north on close-up map and satelite photo of target area assuming Google maps orients maps to true north. (3) Plotted bearings to two nearby landmarks - the NW corner of the tennis court and the NW corner of the playground.  Once on site, I was able to take bearings from the landmarks and establish the approximate location of the hash point.  I tried to verify with my GPS, but it showed the point to be across the street inside a house.  Thomcat's GPS showed the point to be approximately 10 feet from where I had arrived using the compass bearings.  Point found with No Batteries!

GPS is an older Magellan Blazer12, which based on 2008-09-01 47 -122 results appears to have accuracy to about 100 ft.

NB: Yes, I have a boat and it is capable of hosting a fairly large group. I'll be on the lookout of suitable hash locations for a joint expedition (at 6 mph, we can't go far from its base in Shilshole Bay in a reasonable amount of time).

Lives less than a mile from the 2008-07-03 47 -122 location. Is probably older than you (4th oldest geohasher as of 2008-08-27).

Overall stats: 13 attempted, 9 successful, 4 graticules visited, 0 Saturday 4:00 meetups

2008-07-16 47 -122 See expedition page for desciption of why we didn't make it. My kingdom for a boat!

2008-07-30 47 -122 Speed limit was only 25mph, so it made "Speed Racer" really easy! I wasn't able to capture the moment as it would have required holding a GPS, camera and watch, getting them all into the picture with the speedometer, and driving all at the same time.

2008-08-28 47 -122 Threatening "Trespassers will be violated" signs thwart the attempt.

2008-08-30 47 -122 Rats! Foiled again. A second "No trespassing" in as many attempts.

2008-09-01 47 -122 Success!

2008-09-12 47 -121 Success! Our first visit to a hash in a neighboring graticule, Snoqualmie, Washington.

2008-09-20 47 -122 Success! Solo trip in the rain - although despite wading through deep brush and being pretty soaked from the thighs down, I don't think I can claim "Drowned Rat" 'cause the photos don't show me as nearly bedraggled enough (foiled by the waterproof jacket!). Don't think anybody else made it, so I'll claim "First GeoHash" unless somebody else tells me they made it earlier.

2008-10-19 47 -122 Success! Met up with Thomcat. Probably our easiest hash yet - 65 minutes round trip from home. Alpha the wonder dachshund is our drag-along victim this time.

2008-10-23 47 -122 Success! Another very easy hash - about 80 minutes round trip from my office on an extended lunch break. Duplicated the "Speed Racer" achievement by driving through at the posted limit of 15 mph.

2008-10-24 47 -121 Success! Another very easy hash - about 60 minutes round trip from home after work. Just for contrast to the day before, duplicated the "Speed Racer" achievement by driving through at the posted limit of 70 mph.

2008-10-25 48 -122 Alas, Mother Nature wins this round and my hope for three consecutive days is dashed!

2008-11-08 47 -123 The first leg of a two-hashpoint run along highway 101 on the Kitsap peninsula. The first person to make a hash in this graticule!

2008-11-08 48 -123 The second leg of the two-hashpoint run along highway 101.
