We wanted to get a geohash in every country on our trip around the Baltic Sea, and this one was just perfect – we were driving from Vilnius to Latvia that day, stopping in Šiauliai. The hashpoint was directly next to a street and just 6.6 km from our route; the detour would only have been 15 minutes of driving, and it was a virgin graticule. So we fully planned to go there. But after we left from the official centre of Europe near Purnuškės in the afternoon, we set the navigation for Šiauliai instead of the hashpoint in a fit of foregetfulness, and put on our Harry Potter audiobook. I remembered the hash shortly before we arrived in Šiauliai, but we were already a good way away from it and I think it would have taken us at least half an hour to drive back. We discussed it, but all the while drove along, increasing our distance from the hash. In the end, we decided to not drive back, because we wanted to visit the bicycle museum in Šiauliai, and it would already have been closed if we had gone to get the hash. In retrospect, we probably should have went for it, I would have loved to add another country and deflowered graticule to my list. But at least we can claim the [[It's a kitty consolation prize]], because we fully intended to go, then got distracted by our brilliant audiobook and forgot until it was too late. A small comfort.

We wanted to get a geohash in every country on our trip around the Baltic Sea, and this one was just perfect – we were driving from Vilnius to Latvia that day, stopping in Šiauliai. The hashpoint was directly next to a street and just 6.6 km from our route; the detour would only have been 15 minutes of driving, and it was a locked graticule. In the end, we decided to not drive back, because we wanted to visit the bicycle museum in Šiauliai, and it would already have been closed if we had turned around to get the hash. In retrospect, we probably should have went for it, I would have loved to add another country and unlocked graticule to my list. But at least we can claim the It's a kitty consolation prize, because we fully intended to go, then got distracted by our brilliant audiobook and forgot until it was too late. A small comfort.
