When I originally started out on this expedition, I was expecting a very rough section of town and was apprehensive about venturing into this area of town. I turned in from the main street into one of two ways into these apartment buildings. I drove up and saw fences everywhere.
At the entrance to the complex they had not started demolishing the buildings yet. The left half of the road in was blocked off with a big STOP sign on it. The other half, the right side, had several work trucks parked right after the stop sign. There were about 15 workers by the truck packing up their gear. It was the end of the day and I was guessing that they were finished for the day and were going home.
I was suspecting a No Trespassing Geohash as I was sitting there in my truck looking for a way to turn around. I then look back at the big work trucks and 4 or 5 guys had moved out of the way and were now waving me on. Permission granted... I guess?
I drive on looking at my eTrex looking for the correct street to turn on. I find the point hash point. I get out and take a few pictures. It is a ghost town. The entire perimeter area is fenced off, probably more than a square mile.
I'm surprised nobody questioned me being there. I walk around for a few minutes and look in some of the remaining buildings. Seems so empty.
I get back in my truck and drive back out. As I reach the entrance that is half blocked off there is now about 30 work men getting ready to leave. They all now move out of my way. I wave bye as I pass by and half of them wave back.
No questions asked.
