Plans

I wanted to spend some time with the family today, and figured we might as well get a hash in while doing it. It had been a little while since we'd been up to Taos, and the hash was on National Forest land just out of town, so it looked eminently doable. It looked to be a little bit of a hike up to the top of the ridge, but that only made it all the more appealing in my book. It didn't take too much convincing to talk the wife into heading up for the day, so we were on our way!

Expedition

After stopping for the Albuquerque hash on the way out of town, we motored up through Santa Fe and on up the Rio Grande Gorge to Taos. We spent quite a while wandering the Plaza and doing various shopping before going south again and stopping for lunch on the way out of town. Just a short distance out of town on the high road, we stopped at the first trailhead in the National Forest and loaded the kids into the backpacks for the trek up the ridge. It showed only a little more than a half mile to the hash on the GPS, but it took a little more meandering to actually get there. We arrived at a little before 4p on this Saturday afternoon, but we didn't see a heck of a lot of point in lingering until the appointed meetup time. We got a timer picture of the whole family, then made our way back down a steep arroyo and back to the car for the happy drive back home. The entire day made for a thoroughly enjoyable family outing.
