Any chance this could be modified to a more general hashpet achievement, including dogs and other domesticated, non-livestock animals as well as cats? Mostly I'm curious because I met two hashdogs today and would prefer this over a gratuitous achievement stating the same, but making the achievement a little broader in terms of animal choice seems like it'd make it a little less rare as well, which might be a good thing. The main difficulty I can envision is defining which animals count. Thoughts? -[[User:Haberdasher|Haberdasher]] 22:47, 10 May 2012 (EDT)

Support

  • support - There have been quite many people claiming this, and kittehs are geeky. -- relet 15:13, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
  • support - Everybody likes cats. We do need a new icon, though, as it's the same used fro It's a kitty consolation prize Koepfel talk 19:09, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
  • support - I actually thought it already *was* a proper achievement! -- sermoa 19:34, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
  • support - Hooray for the only species that successfully domestiCATed humans. *meow* - Danatar 19:28, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
  • Do not oppose, although I don't think this is worth an achievement. I would prefer to keep it as a gratuitious ribbon. Maybe I'm the only one here who still sees cats as vile carnivorous hunters, not falling for their cuteness disguise. --Ekorren 18:49, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Elaborate comments

  • Concerns have been raised as to whether it is safe to pat foreign cats. Is it a good thing to encourage that, while including a "do it at your own risk" clause? -- relet 15:13, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
  • Unless any objection is raised, I would declare this proposal accepted in roughly one more week from now, that is by Monday Oct 12. -- relet 18:36, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Hooray!!

I'm really pleased that this has become an official achievement! I'm going to look back through my old geohashes to see where i can claim it! :) -- sermoa 15:49, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Modification

  • Needs work: I didn't see this before so this is my comment: make it so the hashcat has to be at or within 100m of the hashpoint. And it must have been their of its own accord, not dragged-along. Otherwise this achievement is far too easy in many places, e.g. if your neighbour has a cat. --davidc 16:38, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Ack. But I would not restrict it to a given distance. That's ok for static objects (couches and offices), but difficult to prove for a moving being. The "significantly close" bit would address your neighbour's cat, if you agree. -- relet 20:51, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
That works --davidc 20:58, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

HashPET?

Any chance this could be modified to a more general hashpet achievement, including dogs and other domesticated, non-livestock animals as well as cats? Mostly I'm curious because I met two hashdogs today and would prefer this over a gratuitous achievement stating the same, but making the achievement a little broader in terms of animal choice seems like it'd make it a little less rare as well, which might be a good thing. The main difficulty I can envision is defining which animals count. Thoughts? -Haberdasher 22:47, 10 May 2012 (EDT)

There are people claiming the hashdog ribbon, for example at 2012-04-01_47_-122 - nobody's keeping you. I would be worried a hashpet achievement would just invite some people to start claiming it for ants and slugs. I'm not too fond of the hashcat achievement itself, except for the strong Internet/kitty correlation justifying it to some degree. -- relet 02:19, 11 May 2012 (EDT)
