Geohashing is a great way to explore your surroundings. Now, I had just moved to a new house, and had a completely unexplored Nature Reserve right in front of my terrace. Location

Steinsfjorden, Norway. 200m from relet's house, halfway to the Braksøya island reservate.

Participants

Plans

Boat. Or swim. It may be raining.

I briefly considered reaching the hash by inflatable couch, but couldn't muster the time and effort to acquire one.

Expedition

Geohashing is a great way to explore your surroundings. Now, I had just moved to a new house, and had a completely unexplored Nature Reserve right in front of my terrace. It's an island called Braksøya. This geohash should provide me with a wonderful excuse to take a trip to the island. I inflated my boat, put on waterproof shoes, donned my rain jacket, wrapped my phone and camera in plastic bags. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring a helmet.

Anyway, a few paddle strokes later, I was able to post the message...

...via my home W-LAN. I claim a virtual couch potato achievement!

I then continued towards the island. It is a nice stretch of forested rock, which at this time of year is a bird reservation. I discovered some young seagulls and divers. Then the adult birds discovered me.

Having no helmet, and sitting in a rubber boat, I quickly decided on a the honorable option: A retreat. Fortunately, the seagulls sticked to the plan and I had nothing worse to suffer than the mocking and some mock attacks.

Photos

Stupid grin, and a bit of Braksøya.
Our house, as seen from the geohash.

Achievements

  • Aiming for a honorary couch potato, at least.
