The Expedition
Today's weather was really nice and I was thinking about some outdoor activity. As I never was in Benediktbeuern before, I visited the city...with going geohashing as an option.
I arrived aroung 12 o'clock at the monastery of Benediktbeuern and wlked around first. I visited the basilica and the gardens. Finally, I walked through the city, heading in direction of the geohash.
The way itself was a forest track, partly paved, and therefore not very difficult to walk. Before I started, I was sceptical because it rained the preceding night and I wondered about the conditions. The road was quite steep, it was 200m in altitude with 2km to go as the bird flies. But I was not in a hurry, took my time and reached a forest soon.
Around 700m from the geohash there was a large clearing with a farm house. Due to the lack of trees, I had a wonderful view over the valley of the river Loisach. A little bit further another part of the forest.
This was the fun part, now came work. I had to leave the forest track onto another one, which was not used a long time seemingly. Leaves all-over and every once in a while muddy sections. I could follow these track up to a distance of 65m, then I had to walk on forest floor. Yes, the conditions did not improve.
I followed my eTrex along a fold flank, but in the end I reached a ridge where it went very very steeply down. There was no way down, and even if so probably no way up again, so I called it off and walked back.
The final distance to the geohash was about 40m to 45m, and although I had a poor signal and the distance jumped back and forth, there was by no means a chance to get below 10m.
To be honest, this was one of the nicer failures.

Probably not, as often when failed.
