Plans
Since all the hashes came out on Thursday morning, I was looking around for the feasibility of a New Years hash. Then I thought some more...how about a TRUE New Year's hash. We were partying with the family, but knew that wasn't going to go to midnight. The hash was relatively close and accessible enough that it might *just* work for a nighttime deal. I drove up in the car earlier in the day to scout it out just in case. Snow. Hmmmm. Better take the SUV tonight.
Expedition
So things didn't start off terribly well. The New Years party we went to was going well and it was 10 before I even realized it. I knew I'd need to get headed to the hash by around 11, and it was 10:30 before we finally got everything collected and headed home. I had to help get the VERY TIRED boys to bed, then headed out the door right at 11. The drive out went fine, but I was worried because I'd been in the car earlier and hadn't been able to truly scout out the road on the final mile to the hash. I got to the turnoff and the SUV did just fine on the 4-6" or so of snow. I got out to less than 2/10 of a mile to the hash and parked. I had to throw on the gaiters and snow traction over my boots--glad I had *both* of those once I got walking--then I headed out in the snow. It was cold night, around 20 deg, and the clouds had rolled in a bit, but because of the blue moon (2nd full moon in the month) it was plenty bright out. The only noise was the occasional passing of a vehicle on the highway a mile away. I trudged the short distance over to the hash and made it there at three minutes to midnight. Happy Hashing New Years! Good thing I didn't have to wait too long, cuz it was chilly standing there. Back to the car, back to the highway, back to my waiting bed. Yay!
