Driving on the Forestry Commission roads was an experience too. I wasn't too happy crawling at five-ten miles per hour. How rally drivers do 60+ on the roads and round the bends I'll never know (especially when it's raining or snowing!)

Location

Very near Kielder reservoir

Participants

  • Neil Stoker was the driver (blaming myself again I notice!)
  • James Stoker was shotgun.

Plans

We had a quick look on Google maps, and thought "this one'll be easy". So packed some grub, the cameras and set off.

No doubt the experienced geohasher's will be wetting themselves laughing at that. And they'd be right to.

Expedition

Right up to the point we got onto the Forestry Commission roads, everything was going fine (apart from missing a couple of turns because the road that Betty (the satnav) was suggesting looked like a farm track.

I'd never driven on a public road where a gate was across it before. I'm glad I had a passenger to deal with the gates is all I can say!

Driving on the Forestry Commission roads was an experience too. I wasn't too happy crawling at five to ten miles per hour. How rally drivers do 60+ on the roads and around the bends I'll never know (especially when it's raining or snowing!)

We got to within 5km of the point, but weren't happy about actually leaving the car and hoofing it to the target point.

When I get some time, I'll try uploading some of the photos we took of the general area.

Tracklog

Next time i'll have to set my satnav to keep the log (it might make it easier)

Photos

I have taken some photos of the general area (I'd not been to Kielder before, and it's an attractive area) and will upload them later. (James also got some pics, I'll see if he's happy for me to upload some of them too).

Achievements

  • Maybe MNB, but probably not, or Poultry Prize?
