This user achieved level {{{ranknumber}}} of the Minesweeper Geohash achievement
by visiting coordinates in [[{{{graticule}}}]] and {{{ranknumber}}} of the surrounding graticules.

You bet there are ribbons. And they are the awesomest ribbons ever. Just you click the template link above and see. The image below does not reveal the awesomeness of the ribbons available as you progress towards this achievement.

To earn this achievement, you must complete successful geohashes in any one graticule and in each of the eight graticules that surround it. That is, the graticules to the immediate north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, and northwest, just as are given on the map on a graticule page. (The Boston area map on this page is shown as an example). The centre graticule does not have to be your home graticule, but can be any graticule of your choosing. The geohashes do not have to be achieved in any order, nor within any time period.

Claremont, NH Concord, NH Portland, ME
Springfield, MA Example Lynn, MA
Hartford, CT Providence, RI Cape Cod, MA

Note that there are no free squares. Even if the graticule map shows dashes for oceanic or undeveloped graticules in the surrounding area, all must have coordinates reached in order to complete the achievement. It is perfectly acceptable to geohash in a graticule that consists entirely of ocean, but for ease of completion is is suggested that you choose a centre graticule that will not require an ocean-going vessel or a well trained team of Sherpas (try explaining that one to them!).

Ranks

It is acknowledged that some geohashing areas will make this an extremely challenging achievement to complete. In order to give some relief and inspiration to geohashers who have not yet completed the full challenge, there are a series of progress ranks, and ribbons to show your progress towards completing all nine.

  • Level 1 - reach coordinates in any two adjacent graticules
  • Level 2 - reach coordinates in any three adjacent graticules
  • Level 3 - reach coordinates in any graticule plus any three of the surrounding graticules
  • Level 4 - reach coordinates in any graticule plus any four of the surrounding graticules
  • Level 5 - reach coordinates in any graticule plus any five of the surrounding graticules
  • Level 6 - reach coordinates in any graticule plus any six of the surrounding graticules
  • Level 7 - reach coordinates in any graticule plus any seven of the surrounding graticules
  • Minesweeper - reach coordinates in any graticule plus all eight of the surrounding graticules

The Super-minesweeper Geohash Achievement

An extension of this achievement would be to reach a geohash in every graticule adjacent to the nine needed for the Minesweeper Achievement, effecting a "super-minesweeper" by completing a 5x5 grid of graticules.

Proof

Simply provide the usual proof for each of the nine geohashes that make up the achievement.
