The Expedition
Nine out of ten. Not bad.
Last year, with hiatus and all, I wasn't able to go geohashing on my birthday. It really was a missed opportunity, because I was in Australia but had to work (of all things). This year different story, vacation it is.
The geohash today was about 6km away from my home, which normally could have/should have been a no-brainer for a Walk Geohash. But unfortunately, I carry some shin splints around and walking longer than necessary isn't an option.
After sleeping in, I took my car and drove to Dettenschwang, a small village nearby. From the map I figured there is a parking lot at the club house of the football club. I thought that nobody would be there, not with amateur club sports shut down.
The distance was about 1.6km as the crow flies and with walking it was about 2km in the end. Near the geohash I saw some farmers but they were busy refilling the liquid manure spreader. I visited the geohash, took the usual photographs and turned to a near-by bench for the picnic.
But first, music! I carried my alphorn with me and played some songs, e.g. "Happy Birthday to you/me/and everybody around". After lunch break, considering the time of year we are entering, I played "O Come, All Ye Faithful", or as I know it "Adeste fidelis" (same just Latin).
Finally, I packed my things and walked back to the car. At home, there will be cake. :D
