Plans

  • In the Hauptfriedhof, a large cemetery in Karlsruhe. Only 900 meters from Koepfel's house. Will walk there in the afternoon. Koepfel talk 14:05, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
I will go there, too. Definitely. But I have to be at the office that day. I don't know yet when to go - whether before 8:45 or in the evening. I'm curious about if someone's getting the Coffin Potato Achievement. And I guess my house is even closer to the geohash than Koepfel's is. --Fluxkompensator 14:50, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
evening, maybe around 18:00? --koepfel 06:24, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Have just been there during lunch break, around 12:00. Koepfel, yes, we can meet at 18:00. I think Gertrud and Otto won the achievement.--Fluxkompensator 10:36, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Expedition Report

Koepfel

After several other hashpoints inside Karlsruhe's city limits, this one was the first less than one kilometer away from my home, thus qualifying me for the Couch Potato Honorable Mention. I screenshot'd my GPS in front of my house, 920 meters line-of-sight.

I left my home, went to the Hirtenweg and on to cross the Haid-und-Neu Straße, a large road leading out of Karlsruhe. I have to walk this way every day to the tram stop Hirtenweg, so I always have to cross this large road and always have to wait at the horribly annoying traffic light, which can take up to 1-2 minutes to change, which is why I usually ignore it when possible (it's possible surprisingly often, considering the heavy traffic on that road).

I walked past the tram stop, where I usually wait every day and turned to a side-entrance to the cemetery, which is right at the stop and walked the remaining part through the cemetery.

I tried filming the walk there, but since I use the same device (my phone) as a camera and GPS, I had to split it into three parts to check the GPS in between. For some reason, Part 1, which went from my home to somewhere in the cemetery, when I first needed a GPS, only recorded the audio, so I didn't upload it. The remaining two parts only cover the last few hundred meters inside the cemetery: Part 2, Part 3.

I was there by 18:00, the hashpoint itself I found quickly, as Fluxkompensator was already waiting there. Both our GPSs had trouble finding the exact spot, since there were trees above us, but we managed to find it. The hashpoint was loacted at the grave of Gertrud (+1995) and Otto (+2001) Ahl.

Fluxkompensator and me stayed at the hashpoint for a while and chatted and returned home by 18:20.
