Expedition

On Thursday, Rincewind checked the app and discovered this looks like a near, easy to reach hash. We planned to go after TheOffspring's working day (i.e., Kindergarden), if the weather allows.

While it was rather chilly, it was dry and we met at Kindergarden after Yakamoz' work and fetched TheOffspring. TheOffspring was intrigued where we would go and had some snacks in the car. We parked somewhere convenient and actually checked out where to go. It was just some 350 meters walking, but the Offspring came to the conclusion that this wasn't much of an adventure and that she was just being dragged along through a damp forest soon.

Behind allotment gardens, there was a small bridge over small Darmbach river, and just 20m further, directly next to a crossroads there was the coordinates on the gravel path through the forest. Since this is the bicycle road between Darmstadt and Roßdorf, it made quite a lot of people unsuspecting hashers that day. The hard gravel made it a bit difficult to properly mark the spot and we didn't want to pile sticks for unsuspecting cyclist to run over with the pending nightfall.

So we took our photos and went home to enjoy the weekend. Yay, success! :)

Expedition

Well this was an easy one. We needed to go to the city anyways and decided to take Pedro with us for his evening walk which would then nicely coincide with a hashing opportunity. We arrived shortly past 17:00 (CET) at the parkingspace for the Vivarium Zoo and noticed signs claiming that we'd need to pay for parking until 18:00. So we located a ticket machine, but it's time was not updated back to "normal" from daylight-savings-time and therefore displayed later than 18:00 (CEST). Despite this, we tried to give it money, but it simply refused to take it – so we got free parking after all.

We then had no trouble walking towards the hashlocation. Thankfully, Rincewind and Yakamoz did not mark the spot with sticks earlier or we might have stumbled over them in the dark. Since there was absolutely nothing of interest to see there, we quickly continued for a bit, crossed the trainline, watched Pedro illuminate the shrubbery with his necklace and eventually and headed back.

During this, Santu also explained how she'd been there before on exactly one occasion on her bike while testing out routes to her work, but obviously hadn't any visible proof of it, since it was dark. But the proof was definitively really there in her hand and Pedros light was just not bright enough to illuminate it properly. She would not dare to cheat for this pristine achievement!
