Expedition

With not much planned, I thought I would take a drive up to Niagara County for this hash and run through the Disc Golf course while I'm there. I figured I could stop somewhere on the way home for dinner and to watch some Playoff Hockey.

I headed up after work and as I was getting close, I turned onto Upper Mountain road while I was talking to my girlfriend. Unfortunately, she was busy this evening so couldn't make it. However, I had a gut feeling that something wasn't quite right, but I continued on. I haven't been to this park more than twice, so I wasn't all that familiar with things. It's a large park that goes along the road for a while, so you really can't miss it. Finishing up my conversation with J, I continued on with this weird feeling and then suddenly, the road was going down and ending at another road. I realized then that I had turned off early and should have waited for LOWER Mtn Road. Turning on my Phone GPS, I was able to navigate around where I needed to go and eventually found the parking lot.

Since the hash was down the hill, and near hole 6 or 7, I figured I would play Disc Golf until I got close and then would break off to hit the hash. Playing on my own, I was able to move pretty quickly, even though I was averaging 1-2 throws above Par. Getting the first couple holes completed, I was walking along the top of the hill and past the Start for Hole 1. Glad I got there when I did, because there were some large groups behind me. I continued on, and getting to the bottom of the hill on Hole 6, I finished up and headed into the woods. Looking behind me, there was no one catching up to me so I figured I should have enough lead time to get back before a group got in front of me.

Navigating through the woods, it wasn't difficult and I was able to close in on the hash without too much problems. Getting a couple pictures, I stepped away to toss one of the discs to the hash. Technically not a golf ball, but close enough for some fun. Heading back, I was able to continue playing and still didn't see anyone closing in on me. I did get turned around in the second half of the course a couple times, but eventually figured out the order of the holes and the start locations. For the life of me, I couldn't find 18 but knew where the end was so I just walked over there and backtracked to the starting point. At least I know where everything is now for next time I'm up this way!

On the way home, I drove over to Niagara Falls and stopped at the Griffin Pub. Based on the line waiting outside, I thought I might have to find another place to go, but there was a couple spots still open at the bar so I celebrated my adventure with a beer and some good food before heading for home.

Is it true that Pedalpusher earned the Golf geohash achievement?
In principle, yes.
But the golf ball that landed at the hash was actually a disc
And even though there was a Golf course near the hash
Technically, it was Disc Golf, for the hash on (2022-05-20 43 -78).
