Great idea! It's too far north for me, but you've inspired me to do the same thing! Macronencer (talk) 16:59, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

Border geohash achievement

"Does Wales count?" - As long as Wales and England are both parts of the United Kingdom, I disagree. --Fippe (talk) 19:28, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Sourcerer has claimed it for Wales in the past, so I was thinking it would count. But I'm not taking that as gospel. -- KarMann (talk) 16:18, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
  • In my opinion, the wording of the achievement seems to allow Wales/England as a border. Internationally it's not an important one, but Wales and England are definitely regarded by many as two different countries. Just ask the Welsh :) --Macronencer (talk) 17:00, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
I am aware that the UK calls it's subdivisions "countries", and the people who are there form different "nations", but as both of you probably know better than me, the UK is also a country, and it also has a single nationality law. Embassies around the world do not represent Wales, they do not represent England, they represent the UK.
Wales has been governed from London for a longer time than most parts of Germany have been governed from Berlin. And if I may expand on the comparison to Germany: Our subdivisions are called Land, which often is translated as state, but another translation is country. Yet I do not claim the Border Geohash for my expeditions to Sachsen-Anhalt or Bremen, because I feel that interpreting it in this sense would go against the spirit of the achievement.
However, I'm not the achievement police and this is a free wiki. --Fippe (talk)
All very fair points, and neither am I the Achievement Police :) --Macronencer (talk) 19:41, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
