From Geohashing

I thought it was a little bit sad that you'd gone to all the trouble to make a little mini footnote on your signature that linked to your talk page, but that you had no talk. Of course if you really liked the look of that red footnote, I've screwed it up now. Sorry about that. -Robyn 19:26, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Nah, this is just my standard signature I used on other wikis before, so it's actually supposed to be a blue link. So far, I seem to do my communication with other users only on the articles' talk pages instead of this page. But thanks for creating it. Koepfel talk 19:42, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, yes, I know about the reletbot, but I did volunteer my services and actually I don't really want to stop doing this; I'm reading a lot of wonderful stories from people all across the globe. If I didn't have code I had to write today I'd gladly change all of the articles by hand. Oh, and I agree with Robyn (again), your signature is really neat. --Virgletati 20:23, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Can I interrupt your sleep?

U seem to be one of the few geohashers near Karlsruhe, so I wanted to ask if u are still interested in geohashing someday? I will hit you on again if it is nearby... ? RecentlyChanged (talk) 11:52, 21 June 2014 (EDT)

Bicycle geohashes

I believe that a bicycle geohash is intended to be done solely by bicycle, with travel by train on the way to the hash invalidating the achievement (although the return journey is ok). So I'm not sure the two you did on Saturday count as bicycle hashes. However, I do think they count as public transport hashes instead. -- Benjw 21:33, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

I was unsure about that. That's why I didn't claim the achievement, but only added it on Bicycle geohashes, not on Bicycle geohash achievement. Koepfel talk 21:43, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
It does explicitly say that public transport cannot be used, in the description of a bicycle geohash. And surely the bicycle geohashes page is a list of bicycle geohashes? -- Benjw 22:01, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Also, Tomtom did 2008-06-29_47_19 by train and bike, this is alco listed on Bicycle geohashes. Koepfel talk 21:43, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Well spotted. I've removed them. -- Benjw 22:01, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Hmm. I disagree. The way we've been doing it, the bicycle geohash achievement is a trip purely by bicycle, but the Bicycle geohashes list is all cycling, even if part of the trip involves another mode of transport. Will you reconsdier? You seriously want to remove thepiguy's 200+ km trip from the list just because he took a ferry and then a kayak across the water? The ferry/transit distance of course is not included. -Robyn 22:17, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

So the "bicycle geohashes" page is not a list of bicycle geohashes? Well, ok. I acknowledge your superior knowledge of the sport.  :-) Please revert my edit if it wasn't appropriate. Oh, and no disrespect to thepiguy. His epic hash was way more than I could do by bike at the moment, and I aspire to do something similar. But if the page is simply a list of all expeditions which involved a bicycle for part of the journey, rather than a list of bicycle geohashes, then this should probably be explicitly stated. -- Benjw 22:25, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
I've just re-read the page, and I guess it is explicitly stated, but not in a very clear way. I took it to mean that it was a list of all bicycle geohashes, rather than the list on the achievement page which was simply one expedition per user. Apologies for making the mistake. -- Benjw 22:27, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey, no apology needed. You're perfectly right that it needed to be clearer and I'm just glad I don't have to beg and plead to get you to reverse your thoughts on this. I'm glad to see all the cleanup you've been doing lately. How about you revert your edits, because you know what you did, and then change the description to make it clear to you? -Robyn 22:35, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Ok, done. I still think it's a bad page name, though. -- Benjw 22:40, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Anyway, after all that, my apologies to Koepfel for telling you off for it! :-) -- Benjw 22:49, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

No problem. Also, I was thinking about adding another achievement ribbon for combined puclic transport and bicycle usage or something like that. And still keep all the bike rides at Bicycle geohashes (or maybe rename it). Koepfel talk 22:53, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Damn

Argh, sorry about the trouble. I guess we should have stayed a little while longer. Oh well, I'm sure this wasn't our last expedition. Maybe we'll have better luck next time Fivetonsofflax 20:07, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Shit happens, we will meet on another expedition someday. As you said in your report, I didn't take the main road to the Hash, but turned left at the end of the Bahnhofsstraße and approached the Hashpoint via the Halbgarten- and Kettelerstraße. On the way back, I took the main road, though. My pictures will follow in a minute. Koepfel talk 20:12, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Monday's hash is a rare opportunity to score a goingdeep geohash in the middle of a 1.9 km railway tunnel. I'm considering going there but not sure yet. See 2011-04-18 48 9 for further details :) --Ekorren 08:09, 16 April 2011 (EDT)

meetup data

On Talk:Meetup_graph#Updates, you mention that your graph includes data which is not included in the page text. Could you make your data available to us to complete the data? We can probably work with whatever format you were using, so the workload for you should be minimal ;)

That would be much easier than going through your last rendered graph trying to spot the differences. Thanks! --Hijackal 12:11, 15 April 2012 (EDT)
