Location

About half a mile from Beverley Rd Hull, on a levee in between a meander of the River Hull and a large duck/fishing pond.

The journey

Team Funky Monkey set off on our first time trying to find a Geohash location. We chose this retrohash as we knew roughly where to go and it seemed quite a simple way to test the GPS Capability of our smartphone.

We picked up a friend from Hull City Centre and used public bus no.14 up Beverley Rd. A small walk away was a park of unknown name, with a large duck & fishing pond. We traveled around the pond (the long way we later found out) with increased difficulty due to the 'path' being narrow and the fact Lauren is in a wheelchair.

We headed up the levee where we knew the location was, and got out the GPS app on our blackberry. The location was quite easy to find roughly, but difficult due to the margin of error on the app. The location was reached but the GPS coordinates kept jumping, and a separate app gave an inaccuracy of about 50ft.

We recorded our 1st attempt as a victory due to the fact we were stood on an empty patch of grass and could have easily pinpointed the exact location if it wasn't for our equipment. Not bad for casual Geohashers where one is disabled. We will aim to get a better GPS (and a compass!)

We returned round the other part of the pond, got the bus back home and celebrated with wine!

Points of Interest

We spoke to a lady feeding a pair of swans. She said she saw the swans with their babies for years. Unfortunately she said that many of the babies are killed by anglers who leave lines and hooks in and around the pond.

Very close to the Geohash was a large wind turbine. It belongs to a factory and was fenced off, but we were still able to get quite close.
