Expedition
After six hours on the road trekking through lower New England and visiting geohashes here and here, I had finally made it back to my stomping grounds of the Mid-Atlantic, and now, mere miles from my humble abode, I was ready to try for my third geohash of the day. It wasn't going to be a walk in the park though. Of the three that I had planned to do today, this one was the one I was pretty sure would be impossible. The geohash was right near the backyard of a house that didn't have an easy way to access it. Obviously, I wasn't keen on creepily wandering up to the edge of someone's yard, so my plan was just to play it by ear and go as close as I could.
My only way to get to the house, besides walking up their driveway, was to head down a road called Finnish Lane, maybe because there's a pond a few houses down from it and Finland has so many lakes? Or is the road a finish line to a race of some sorts? Anyways, I parked near the turnoff to Finnish Lane and started walking down it. Before I had taken twenty paces, I heard the geohasher's least favorite words: "Can I help you?" I turned around, and the one house visible from the road had a guy on the porch that didn't look particularly Finnish. I told him I was taking a walk up the road, and he said it was a private road. Apparently, there are people with dogs up there that you didn't want to mess with. He wasn't mean or unpleasant about it, so I thanked him for letting me know and went on my way. It was a very quick expedition, as most of my failed expeditions are, but at least I wasn't surprised by my failure. Three hashes in one day would have been nice, but two would suffice.
