I had spent the day hiking in the Vosges mountains with a friend and was ready to put on my pyjamas when I decided to have a look at today’s geohash.
I checked the train timetables and realized that I could go to Erstein by train, cycle to and from the coordinates, take another train, and be back home in less than 2 hours.
But am I stupid enough to go cycle one hour in the dark just to reach an uninteresting geohash?
Of course I am!
Expedition
22:09: Baarde leaves the train station and starts cycling through Erstein industrial and commercial park. As he reaches a dead-end, it occurs to him that maybe he should have reviewed Google Maps' itinerary.
22:27: Baarde finishes screwing the wheel nuts, checks the drive chain tension and the wheel alignement one last time, then packs his bicycle tools in the saddle bag. As he pushes his bicycle back to the middle of the muddy farm track, two oranges dots suddenly appear in the headlight beam.
22:28: Tod, the unidentified beast, pauses and observes the human for a few seconds before continuing its way through the next cornfield.
22:39: Baarde enters Hindisheim. He is finally back on the asphalt.
22:51: Baarde narrowly avoids a hedgehog.
22:52: Baarde decides to head back to Erstein.
