I recommend having these two graticules together and picking either the closest to you or closest to the centre of the city, any sugestions?--Ryan the leach 12:48, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

  • I would prefer closes to the city centre. Granted, I live in the Northern Suburbs, but for fairness sake, meets should be closest to our "central" point. For example, "today" 21 May, the North point is up near Saddleworth, but the South point is near Strathalbyn. So the closest to CBD is the South Point. --Beeawwb 15:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Someone else set up the link, which means that there are other XCKD fans from Adelaide. I'm (GeorgeD) up for it, but we have a problem that the vast majority of our zones are either in the ocean or not reachable by public transport.

I'm in the southern half according to the graticule although only by a km or so either direction (preferably within metro) is fine for me. This could be interesting although I'm not sure how much time I've got to dedicate to it. Nor do I own a GPS so the map better be accurate --ST 12:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
The southern graticule is mostly ocean. I think we've got about a 70% chance of the northern one being accessible, although it could be up to three hours' drive away. We'd have to be pretty lucky for it to be within the metro area.
If the northern one is too far north simply use the southern one, that should work right?
I would suggest going with the one that is closest to the CBD. We'd all need to use a bit of common sense though. --Beeawwb 15:36, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

playing with some old dates, and most of the coords are in the middle of nowhere. Though I did find one in suburbia for 2008-05-06.

I don't know what old dates you're playing with, but 2008-05-06 are both in the middle of the ocean. The 2008-05-19 locations are both (N & S) accessable. The South one I know for a fact, because I used to live just up the road from it. 2008-05-14S would have been good, just off of Pt Stanvac, so not sure if accessable though. 2008-05-04N is in somebodies backyard in Fulham. So getting an OK "hit" rate.

LOCATION SPECIFIC -> If using the applet in australia, while it is day x for us, in america it it is day x-1 therefore australians must for any day calculate the position to go to based on the previous day's date.

Market data is now available, and the southern graticule looks like our best bet. The location is in the southern suburbs, a bit south of Old Reynella and near the southern end of the Southern Expressway. I think that this will be closer than the location for the northern graticule for anyone in Adelaide, even if they're as far north as Gawler.

Looks do-able. Anyone else going? --ST 03:23, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Annoyingly, both of today's were not-in-the-middle-of-nowhere; well, the southern graticule location was somewhere between Strath and Milang, but the northern graticule location is just south (by a few km) of Kapunda. Both of tomorrow's are somewhat nautical... better luck for next Saturday? 192.43.227.18 06:22, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

So looks like this weekend is a no-go. 28th are both water. 29th, the Southern graticule is just off of the shore near Encounter Bay (suppose you could try to swim for it!) and Northern, while in easy distance for us Northies (Just out of Lewiston) looks to be on private property. There's a dirt road that goes most of the way into the clear land, but it goes right past a house which looks to be part of the property. Can't tell if there's a gate or not. --Beeawwb 02:17, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

2008-07-04->07

With the 4th of July being a public holiday in the USA, DJSI info is available for this weekend. Doesn't look like anything doable except for the 7th (in Woodside) which is on private property. Maybe next weekend. --Beeawwb 14:12, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Today would have been a good opportunity for anyone in the northern suburbs - not to mention a Speed Racer Achievement candidate. --ST 09:25, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

2008-11

Well, we're not exactly having the best luck with the hashes of late, are we? - UnwiseOwl 23:01, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Ok, there will be a car departing my place at approximately 4:15pm travelling to the Northern Graticule point in the forest tonight. We'll be aiming to claim the hottest ever geohash. Bring cold weather gear in sympathy for those poor Northern Hemisphere types. If you want to come, let me know. -- UnwiseOwl 01:42, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Good luck guys - I was thinking you folks should go for the Hottest Hash record with the heatwave you've been having...--CJ 02:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Uh huh, yesterday was our hottest day in 70 years. Thankfully this time round there was no massive bushfires like there was in 1939. -- UnwiseOwl 02:24, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

2009-03-14

If anyone else wants to do this one - I'm in. The southern one is only a small way offshore and I have a tinny we could use. --TheJosh 21:30, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Sounds great. If we can't get to the point. I'll suggest the lookout looking thing 2.3 km SE as the alternate, sound good to you? We'll plan to be there at 4pm for any other hashers in the area. If you get there and we're not there, look NW into the big blue sea...-- UnwiseOwl 23:52, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Thats the plan --TheJosh 23:54, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Anyone up for a geohash this weekend? --22:37, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
