I'm an ex-Cuesta student that used to work in SLO county in a small start-up IT company, but am now hanging around San Jose. Geohashing _IS_ the killer app for GPS!
I'm up for the decihashing centicule idea, too, if the geohash is too "hardcore" ;o)
