2024-11-02: kinda enjoying Tampa again, but might be unable to reach a hash this month
I returned home a week ago, but with me thinking of work and still being busy preparing to settle somewhere else, I don't think I'll find time to reach any hashes. By car, at least; I've had this bike for some months and I never really used it because it was too much for me and my legs to ride in high gear... until I inflated the tires as printed. I just have to get lucky that it doesn't fall within a house, because it most certainly will around here.

2024-10-10: felt like doing Vehicle list; also, harsh as Milton was, I'm fine
I actually didn't witness Milton myself, as I'm in 38, -122 (Santa Rosa, CA), the result of being reeled into yet another "vacation". Home reports little damage, only debris that ended up on driveways and other houses; the main trouble is that infrastructure (cell towers, electricity) is lacking. I won't be back for some time, though, not because the flights aren't going, but because we plan to drive all the way.

Got an actual GPS receiver today, a Garmin eTrex Solar.
As you might expect by name, this one is set apart from a solar block that can charge the thing, or put as much energy as it consumes under a great sun (which is basically Florida in the summer). Otherwise, a typical receiver, and obviously there's some troubles: everything, including tracklogs, seem to be in .fit (not .gpx for tracklogs); the buttons are kinda tough to push; very small internal memory and no SD cards, so if I'm somehow able to use the tracklogs I'll have to clear the thing maybe every week; you can't screenshot, so you better have a camera. However, I at least wanted it to locate me, and it does this very well, being able to use multiple systems to locate down to 2 meters.
Obviously, this doesn't mean I'll start geohashing a lot soon; Tampa's giving the gift of not giving, as ever. A nice thing to have, though. :)
