It was the best of hashes, it was the worst of hashes, it was a hash of wisdom, it was a hash within stupidity distance, it was done while not trespassing (I believe), it was done while others stood incredulous, it was a Sunrise Achievement, it was a Midnight Achievement, it was another Geohashing Day, it was an attempt for a Coldest Geohash, we had made Mother Nature our bitch, she had made us hers, we were at a Holy Hash, we were all insane - in short, the hash was much like any other hash, in that it was reported on the wiki, it was awesome, and it was terrible, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

Description of Achievement

This cooperative achievement is achieved by a pair of geohashers. The first geohasher would attend a geohash in a place, for example, Vancouver, Washington, USA (in the Portland, Oregon graticule). That person, having proved their hash at that particular point, puts out a challenge to a geoahshers to geohash a place with the same place name. (for example, Vancouver, British Columbia).

The first geohasher issues the challenge when typing up the hash report by including an open challenge ribbon in the category below. Any other geohasher can claim a challenge when they type up their report if they've geohashed in a matched named place. When the second geohasher successfully completes the challenge, both geohashers gain this achievement.

Special distinction should be given to a pair of geohashers who manage to complete this achievement in a single day, in a pair of particularly small areas, or if claimed by seperate geohashing expiditions on the same day. Particularly amusing stretching to get this achievement should also receive note (pairing Earth, Texas[1] with any other geohash, for instance).

Challenge System Details

Challenges require locations that are named by other than geohashers or those influenced by geohashers (no graticules, no paying someone to name a place for an hour). If a challenge for a place name exists, claim that challenge rather than making a new one. Challenges are claimed by first come, first served, but if multiple hashers claim in the same day, they all share the ribbon.

If you are attempting an open challenge, make a note under it to let people know so we can cheer you on!

Useful tools

Wikipedia's disambiguation pages (for example, Vancouver's [2]) are simple ways for finding shared city names.

Proof

Normal proof for a geohash applies, though posting a picture with the two geohashes of the challenge side by side is appreciated. Having place names in the pictures is excellent, but not required.
