Plans

turbomagnus 23:22, 9 February 2011 (EST): Having just acquired a GPSr in the form of a Garmin GPS72, I intended to test it and me with a series of retro expeditions to hashpoints near my daily delivery route. In the end, I narrowed the list down to two; one in a set of woods to test without any landmarks and the other in a cemetery with landmarks.

Expedition

turbomagnus 23:22, 9 February 2011 (EST): With my work for the day finished, I diverted to the second of my two intended Retro Expeditions. This was the test, I had a landmark for a reference and if my GPS could get me to within circle of accuracy to the hashpoint and I could confirm it with the landmark, I'd have the GPS I needed to take on greater challenges. Entering the cemetery I felt hope, the GPS was directing me straight at the landmark. As I closed in and saw the form it took, I wondered, "Divine providence?"

With the compass screen showing me being within the circle of accuracy, I started to get excited, thinking this could really work. Then... trouble... the GPS began jumping worse than it had at the earlier Retro Expedition, at one point suddenly going from the hashpoint being a foot and a half away to saying it was over eighty-eight feet away. The sun which had shone so brightly the last few hours disappeared and with the wind picking up and the temperature dropping, I began to grow first frustrated with the GPS, then nervous. This was a cemetery. Had Chibithulu and I unwittingly disturbed some of the residents?

My little green friend seemed unconcerned and ready for his picture, inciting me to place the marker in the form of a chalk 'XKCD' at roughly the point the GPS seemed to settle most on the hashpoint being. As soon both he and I had photographic proof of presence, I decided it was time to go before things became any more creepy.

Achievements

Is it true that turbomagnus earned the Holy Hash achievement?
In principle, yes.
But it was a Retro Expedition (2010-10-10 34 -84).
