Plans
As usual my plans were vague and ill formed, but I hoped to be outstanding in this particular field at some time on the right day . I may even set a geohash celebrating geocache near the hashpoint.
Expedition
Having avoided Easter chocolate overload (there is no such thing as too much chocolate, only too little time to eat it before anyone else notices you have it ... ) I headed for this hashpoint after a leisurely and late bank holiday breakfast, parked handily in a gateway where I found a geocache years ago, and set off for the 750m or so wander to the hashpoint. Glorious sunny weather, skylarks singing, bees buzzing and butterflies flitting around, I was enjoying the walk so much that I glanced at my 'phone and discovered I'd gone 80m too far. Eejit !
About face, track back, and was within 20m of the spot when I needed to leave the path and step into the huge field of shin-high grass. Happily some tractor tracks headed to where I needed to be, so no plants were trampled in pursuit of this hash. Photographed 'phone screen, had my stunt-double hashscot pose for photos, then picked my way back to the path. I had a marker with me (actually a 3cm slice off the bottom of the trunk of my 2017 xmas tree ) but decided not to leave it at the exact location in case it caused a problem to the farmer, so it is jammed in the hawthorn hedge at the side of the path, about a meter up and roughly opposite the correct spot.
As I'd hoped, there was a decent spot a little further on where I could leave a small tub, so there will certainly be an opencache there soon, and maybe a groundspeak one as well if I can be bothered. More photos on the way back to the car, bees, wild flowers, and those elusive butterflies: I saw tortoiseshells, peacocks and orange tips, but few held still long enough for a picture.
