Expedition 1

This hash looked good but turned out to be too far into a house to make count.

I rode towards the Dunvegan Parklands where I met Talex. We snuck through the no-bikes 'kissing gate' (I had to take off my front wheel) into the Gresswell Forest Park. We walked, rode and prammed through the park to the opposing gate (not a kissing one) and made our way to the hash-house.

I put a mask on, put down my bike, crept up to the house and stood on the porch. I rang the doorbell but there was no answer. I could hear the TV on inside but decided not to push it by knocking since there were signs on the door saying 'no knockers' and 'Do Not Knock'. In the end I took some screenshots of my closest approach and we left.

We walked around the park lands for a little while longer. We then excited the kissing gate the way we came and I rode home, pausing only at traffic lights and to get a squishy to have on the last little bit of my ride.

The Adventure

Hello and welcome to the story of my first ever GeoHash.

I had never done one before, and it all happened sort of by accident.

It all began when I was driving a couple of scientists to see some ponies. I, myself, am not a scientist but I do have good intel on where to find ponies. We weren’t going to see ponies for science-related reasons – these were people I’d met the night before in my aerial circus class and we all decided to pull sick days for a pony-based adventure. If my boss is reading this, then no we didn’t I was sick.

Anyway, so we are in the car headed for ponies and we are talking about maths (eww) and for some reason also web comics, so obviously the web comic comes up so I say, ‘Yeah and there’s that map game thing,’ and they’re like, ‘what map game thing?’ and I’m like, ‘that one on the app everyone download ages ago when they were trying to impress a boy’ which I’ve now learned is not a universal experience. So when we stop for a pre-pony snack I show them the app. Lo and behold we are barely a kilometre from the location of choice.

So we are all a bit curious.

What will happen if we reach the destination? Will someone emerge from the bushes with confetti, and will it be That Boy? And, considering it seems to be in the middle of a residential house, will we need to climb on someone's roof?

We drive to the location. It’s a court and there’s nowhere to park so we awkwardly chuck on the hazards mid-road and pile out of the car. We approach the house, waving my phone and it all seems kind of absurd as we await some kind of sign that we are Big Winners.

Some small green text appears on my phone saying something like, ‘lol, maybe u win but GPS isn’t that accurate so *shrug emoji*’, and honestly, I expected a little more flattery. At the very least a budget midi-rendition of ‘We are the Champions’. I’ve since learned that this is a good time to take a screenshot so you can prove your victory. Ditto re: selfie. We didn’t do either, so here’s an artist’s rendition.

Wow what a moment
Sweet(?) validation

Anyway so I guess that was our first GeoHash? From what I can tell the sport reached peak popularity in 2010, so it’s on-brand that I only just did one now.

Thanks for tuning in, if anyone needs me I’ll be organising a flash mob.

P.S We saw some ponies and the day was a resounding success.

The Reason for the Season

P.P.S Then it took me seven months to upload the adventure.
