About Me
My nickname is Kigaia -- I love taking roadtrips and afternoon adventures with my family and friends, especially when such events are affordable and available on a whim.
The graticules I am most likely to be found geohashing in are:
Expeditions
- 2012-08-16: Kigaia and family visited the rolling farmland of Riner, Virginia on a cold, rainy day to find the geohash located in a grassy field.
Achievements
A collection of ribbons that tell (part of) the story of my geohashing adventures. The addition of notes are my own, they are not required. In this way the Achievement Ribbons also serve as an adventure log, either summarizing or adding commentary to the main expedition report. Many ribbons can be earned multiple times -- the notes help to differentiate between repeated or similar achievements; they tell the story of how each ribbon was earned.
Notable
Kigaia Family earned the Graticule Unlocked Achievement
|
Notes | This achievement was determined by the absence of any previous successful expedition reports on the graticule page of such coordinates. There are also no failed attempts. Are we really the first? Perhaps a ninja geohasher has been active in the region... if so, we extend an invitation to them to come forth and play with us. However, with no claims to the contrary, it appears we are the pioneering geohashers of this land. |

Kigaia Family earned the Land geohash achievement
|
Notes | This being our first geohashing adventure, I'd love to have pictures of Heeli and Anu standing at the geohash with stupid grins, if for no other reason than to commemorate this day for our personal records. But it took us an hour to finally reach the hashtag, a vast departure from the five minutes we'd anticipated. And our GPS had us doing a quasi-tribal dance in the field, trying to pinpoint the exact spot. And the camera malfunctioned. And it was cold and rainy. And Anu lost patience with all of the above. So our expedition report will have to suffice as proof. |
Kigaia Family earned the Drowned Rat Geohash Honourable Mention
|
Notes | We were hoping for a warm, sunny autumn day but Mother Nature had other things in store. It was overcast, soggy, and chilly. Being quite used to a long stretch of enjoyable 70 degree days, we felt the need to bundle up like explorers visiting the Arctic in order to comfortably brave this unreasonable weather. Was it really THAT cold? No, we were being weenies. The temperature was in the mid-40s and it was drizzling, certainly not a blizzard or monsoon weather. But it's all about relativity. Had it been snowy and freezing in the days prior to our adventure we likely would have thanked the atmospheric gods for a 45 degree day and dressed suitably in flip flops and bathing suits. Upon review of historical data, the temperature was 20 degrees cooler and quite a bit wetter than average for this period at the geohash location. |
