Expedition
Not only was this geohash close, but it was on the same route as the first half of the Tron expedition from 2015-06-26. However, I had no plans for a Tron today. Where Rt 240 makes a sharp turn South, there is an old railroad bed that makes the Hypotenuse with Rt 240. It is almost all the way down this former railroad where the woods lay that hold the hash.
Since I knew I was going off-road, I had a nice, easy ride on the mountain bike and the roads to the railroad bed were mostly flat. Once there, I found that the bed was still those large and loose, but compacted stones that used to support the track. While I wouldn't exactly call it smooth, I wasn't sinking in or bouncing around too much. About half of the railroad bed was rocky but there were some long sections that were flooded with a couple inches of water.
I finally got within about a tenth of a mile and needed to leave the railroad bed, but at this point, there was a very steep drop-off and it was very thick with shrubs and trees. I continued down a bit further and found a more open area to go down very carefully. Getting to the bottom, I found a four-wheeler track and since it was going the right way, I followed it toward some high voltage wires. There was a lot of standing water but I managed to avoid the worst of it and got under the wires. I found another path into the woods on the other side, but I could see a pretty big fence with the hash close. It didn't look good.
I got to the very sturdy fence with barbed wire on top to find that I still had a little over 70 feet to go. I followed the fence until it turned, but it looked like it continued the length of the property without breaks. I got my pictures and headed back to the railroad bed. On the way back, I found a bunch of raspberry bushes and treated myself to some ripe black raspberries and a few red ones. Delicious!
