Location

Inside or at the wall of a service building next to a REWE supermarket, in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany.

This day’s weather: rainy or sleety, windy, 4 °C

Participants

Plans

As this is the very first geohash in my home city since I discovered the sport, on my way back home from work, I wanted to take a detour and try reaching the coordinates. (My father regularly drives me back home from work.)

Expedition

After parking our car in the REWE supermarket’s underground parking, my father and I walked around the area, trying to find a way into the backyard where the coordinates lie. Swept by wind and rain, we checked numerous promising-looking entrances, but got stopped by a wall each time – apparently, there’s no way to reach that backyard without going through a building.

When we turned left from Gutenbergstraße onto Spirwesweg, it became obvious that the specific building part the hashpoint lies on is a service building, locked away from the public with door, gate and fence. Finally, we tried to get close to the coordinates from inside the underground parking, only to find more locked doors leading to that service building, one of them plainly being signposted with Zutritt für Unbefugte verboten (i.e. No Trespassing).

After paying a parking fee of € 2.50, we drove back home.

Tracklog: Walking near the hashpoint

  • I forgot to immediately start the tracklog.
  • Direction: anti-clockwise
  • GPS accuracy: bad (no accurate depiction of walking indoors)
  • Markers show all locations where I took photos

Achievements

Recurring

I already earned these from an earlier geohash, but fulfilled the conditions again on this one.

Green guy! earned the No trespassing consolation prize
by almost (15–20 m away) reaching the (49, 8) geohash on 2024-11-20.
