Expedition
The Geohash is located inside Saint Barthélémy Church, in Nice, France - the biggest city of the graticule, classified UNESCO world heritage.
I managed to bring my father L, and my family who were visiting us this weekend, JL and A.
We drove to the hash-point, which was quite short and easy. The car probably thought it was too easy, and instead of activating the navigation from voice access command, it decided to call a random guy in the address book. I used the navigation on my phone which was more conciliant.
We arrived at Saint Barthélémy Church around 17:30, but a religious celebration was ongoing.
As rushing into a ceremony to find a Geohash would have probably got us a curse or something, I decided to put the phone on the wall, and I was lucky enough to reach the Geohash from there: success!
As we wanted to go into the church and be at the exact Geohash location, we decided to wait for the ceremony to be finished.
We discovered a cemetery next to the church and decided to visit it. It was huge, and some tombs were quite old. This is unusual in a very dense area like Nice to have a cemetery like this, surrounded by buildings.
JL decided to wait at the gate to make sure we will not be locked inside of the cemetery – thanks! - and L, A and I decided to do a small tour at nightfall.
We discovered that the mother of the famous writer Guy de Maupassant is buried here.
After the walk, we came back to the church entrance and waited a bit more time for most people to leave, and finally entered and stood at the Geohash (probably, as the GPS was not working inside).
It was a nice adventure :-)
