Expedition

On Friday afternoon, I was inspired suddenly due to unknown forces to check this weekends geohashes, and I was pleased to see that this hash looked feasible with a 50 minute drive.

On Saturday, I was on my way shortly after having breakfast, with the plan to get to the hash first, and then figure out what I would do. The drive over was nothing out of the ordinary (except 3 crazy drivers that validate most peoples stereotypes about Texas drivers...), and it was an easy has to grab. 3 meters to the North and this would have turned into the kind of geohash you meet while driving at 50mph (or more), but I was happy to be able to get this one hash on foot.

After making the hash, I pulled up Google Maps (for the unteenth time that day) to check what was there to do in San Marcos. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a string of parks in the middle of the city surrounding the San Marcos (what else!) river, and took the short drive there. I walked along the river for an hour or so, which gave me plenty of time to ponder random thoughts, people-watch, and be grateful to geohashing for making me discover this city that I would not have otherwise paid much attention to.

Finally, I grabbed some Huli Huli chicken at a nearby Hawaiian fast-food place (it was really good, though my hunger at the time is a strong bias), and drove back home. It is an unfortunate reality of Texas that most expeditions have to start and end with a good amount of driving a car around, but it is a reality nevertheless!
