This page was created so that a standardised format could be decided on for Geohashing groups on Facebook, as well as a place to collect a list of links to current groups.
"Standardised format" mainly refers to the name and type of the group. Please feel free to add arguments for and against each possible standardisation.
Possible name formats
The name of the Facebook group should include the word "Geohash" or a variation of it ("Geohashing", "Geohashers") as well as the location around which the geohashing is taking place.
Because there are some towns/cities with the same name, but in different countries, [Town/City/Area] would work best if you use what Facebook gives you when you start typing in their "City/Town:" box.
For example:
"Toronto, ON" refers to Toronto, ON, Canada
while
"Toronto, Australia" refers to Toronto, New South Wales, Australia
Geohashing - [Town/City/Area]
Geohash - [Town/City/Area]
Pros
This one is the most common format for groups at the moment. It would mean less groups would have to change to conform to the standardisation.
[Town/City/Area] Geohashers
The use of the label "Geohashers" has a much more personal feeling to it, but it could read weird when a comma is used for the location.
Geohashers - [Town/City/Area]
Like above, using "Geohashers" gives a sense of community and "camaraderie" for people to label themselves with. By
