Plans
I spent the first part of the day in Constanța, then estimated I could make it to Galați in time to walk from Barboși station to the hashpoint, then to the last municipal bus of the night to get to the apartment I booked. This was an attractive geohash to go for not just because of its accessibility, but also because of it proximity to the national border: I hoped to visit Moldova and Ukraine the next day.
Expedition
As expected, I reached Barboși after dark and set off for the geohash. This was probably my scariest expedition to date, because of the numerous dogs barking and howling at me. I was never actually attacked (my attempts at looking self-assured may have dissuaded the dogs, or maybe I was overestimating there aggression), but I got the impression that was a definite possibility, and one that wouldn't end well for me.
The hashpoint was off the road, down a steep hill. It also turned out to be a dump site, with unidentified plastic items strewn all over. I was able to get my documentation and return to the road without much trouble, though, and continued toward town.
Then the gendarmie showed up.
