Plans
When Beardygrade excitedly reported that the next geohash would occur within the city limits of Oldenburg and in direct vicinity of the Bornhorst lakes, Altetrine immediately decided to join the expedition. And not even as a drag-along but with the clear intention to become a geohasher as well and to create an account. Plans were made to start after breakfast.
Expedition
Breakfast on christmas eve was not that early in the morning, giving Gaboversta no excuse to exclude himself from the journey. We mounted our bikes around 11:30 and made our way from the western fringe of Oldenburg towards the eastern one. Despite being the forenoon of christmas eve with many last-minute shoppers around, traffic was mostly acceptable. For a small stretch we could even use a fairly new bicycle street which will be extended in the next months in order to connect a new living quarter with the city (fast FLIN).
From the junction Pferdemarkt (horse market; they actually traded horses here when Oldenburg was famous for breeding horses) we took one of the main streets which leads to the sparsely inhabited quarter Bornhorst at the very eastern limit of Oldenburg. Along this road, there is always a sidewalk intended for pedestrians and bicyclists, but sometimes it is very narrow. For the last kilometer towards the hash we used smaller streets where we had to share the road with cars, but it wasn't very crowded.
We arrived at the right meadow without difficulties, locked the bikes, and set out on foot towards the center of the meadow. After about 70 meters we reached the spot and took some pictures. The peaceful surroundings were somewhat ruined by the nearby highway A29 with its unignorable noise level. But nevertheless, we enjoyed a little walk to the smaller of the excavation lakes which is surrounded by trees and provides a beautiful scenery (the lakes being perhaps the best results of the highway building process...).
For the return journey we took a more northerly route on smaller streets through some agricultural or even natural patches of Oldenburg.
