This wiki page has recently been a spam target. To effectively combat this, please use the "undo" function in the page history rather than deleting the spam outright. Spambots don't just add content, but delete legitimate content as well. If you just delete the spam, the net effect is a loss of content. Please use caution when restoring pages, and hold off on constructive edits if this problem persists.

I'm wondering what would happen if there were more text on this page to begin with. Seeing as spammers can post their garbage here with impunity, I will put a bunch of equally useless things, to test what happens.

Theory #1

The spammers delete everything on the page and replace it with their own. That is what seems to be happening now. It is really quite sad, because it means poor ZorMonkey can never have a proper User page and we won't know about him.

The first attack following my sectionizing the page erased everything before leaving its garbage.

Theory #2

The spammers randomly select a section to replace with their own stuff. This is supported by the fact that the Main Page Talk gets spammed but not everything is deleted. This theory explains why I am making these sections.

Theory #3

I don't have a theory number three, but I wanted a third section.

Note

If this were my page, I would incensed. Absolutely furious. I would want to track the spammers down and remove their various organs through their various orifices. I'm glad for ZorMonkey's blood pressure and legal status that s/he seems to have a more laid back attitude towards this curious targeting.

More notes

We should enable some Anti-spam features. I've made good experiences with the regex blacklist, and modifying the anti-spam error message. I.e: Blocking any edit containing "*viagra*" (or some of the html that spammers typically use), and not obviously telling that the edits did not succeed. I've never seen my spammers again.
