Plans

When I looked at the day's location in Geohash Droid, I saw that it would require only a short diversion from my usual bicycle commute route to work that evening, so I decided to finally do my first geohash!

Expedition

I left my apartment on the Upper West Side at about 10:40pm bound for my 1:00am work tour in East New York, Brooklyn - with a short geohash diversion planned. Temperatures were in the mid 40s F, with a 10mph wind from the SW. I took my usual route - across Central Park at 72nd St, down 2nd Ave to 60th St to the Queensboro Bridge bike path, along the Queens Plaza bike path to Van Dam st, to Review Ave, to 56th Rd. Where I would usually turn onto Maspeth Ave, I instead took Maurice Ave and followed it to a block past the Long Island Exprssway overpass. The destination was only a few blocks farther, and Geohash Droid guided me there unerringly. The geohash was on the front stoop of a home in a cute neighborhood of closely packed, but very neatly kept homes, on the side of a mediumish hill. Even though I arrived at there at 11:45pm, the road noise from the nearby Long Island Expressway was still very much in evidence. Since I had to get to work, and I was worried people would think I was up to no good skulking around the neighborhood that time of night, I snapped a couple of photos and screenshots, then left to complete my commute to work.
