Location

The hash is in the water! About 1.5km from the coast, about half-way between Donostia and Orio!

Participants

The captain and crew of the ship Itxashaiz (Txema, Ana, Alfredo, Justin-A,Joana, LizWiz) will attempt this geohash on the 4th day of their 5-day long sailing course!

Plans

Sail west to the hash!

Expedition

It was an extremely hot and sunny day in Donostia. At around 4:30pm we set sail from La Concha Bay. LizWiz and Justin-A suggested a special course for the day's sail: THE GEOHASH! The captain and rest of the crew agreed, and so we set course for the hash, about 4 miles away! The wind was a steady nor'easter, around 10 knots, and we ran before the wind towards our destination. With Justin-A as skipper, Justin-A monitored our course on the Geohashing App. Cap'n Txema manned the main sheet and Ana and Alfredo the genoa. Half-way there we tried out wing on wing sailing for the first time, with the whisker pole. Several times we sighted sunfish, sunbathing at the surface of the water, and we kept a lookout for other exciting sea creatures. The closer we got to the point, the harder it was too any closer! After a bit of confusedly sailing back and forth and back, an alarming jibe seemed to announce we simply must be there, and we could begin our upwind journey back, with the satisfaction of having achieved our goal. The upwind journey was exciting, and though we let a line drag behind our boat, there was no catch!
