This is a proposal made on 2018-12-12. Please leave comments and suggestions on Talk:Citation Needed achievement, indicating your thoughts on the proposal, including:
  • Support - you think this proposal should be added with zero or minor changes
  • Do not oppose - you think it's boring/meh/not for you, but it wouldn't harm to have it created
  • Oppose - you have a specific reason as to why this ribbon should not exist (state this reasoning in your comment)
  • Needs work - you think the achievement should be created after more significant changes have been made

See Proposed achievements for more information on this process.

This achievement will require geohashers to bring a "Citation Needed" sign to the hashpoint and take a picture holding it.

Origin

If you are unaware, "Citation Needed" is a joke from 285: Wikipedian Protester that is often found on the what if? site and the explainxkcd wiki. It is a running joke to put [citation needed] after statements that are trivial or blatantly obvious. -ExplainXKCD wiki.

I thought that doing this might be funny and also spread the word about xkcd (and subsequently geohashing).

Criteria to obtain achievement

  • You must bring your own Citation Needed sign to the hashpoint.
    • Exception: The group of geohashers that you planned the journey with need only 1 sign for all of you.
  • Take a picture with you and/or your group holding the sign. Your hand must be touching the sign for it to count.
  • The "Citation Needed" text can be in any color. Bonus points if you have it in proper Wikipedia format and colors.
  • The sign should be made before you leave your place of residence, but is not required to obtain the achievement.
  • The sign should be visible while you make your way to the hashpoint, but is not required to obtain the achievement.
