Expedition

This is the second leg of a pseudomultihash: the beginning of the story is at 2012-12-28 44 -93.

After finding the hashpoint in Shakopee, I (Swensonj) and my dad and brother continued west toward Benton Lake. Dad recalled that he had been on the same road in 1965, in a friend's car, which he (my dad) had hotwired. I was surprised I hadn't heard that story before!

The GPS was puzzled by the route we followed, over snowy gravel roads, to earn the Tron achievement. Our advance study of the Google map served us well, and we were able to approach the retrohash from the west. Dad stayed in the car, since the narrow shoulder didn't leave enough room for the car to park entirely out of the roadway.

My brother and I walked across the road into the snow-covered corn field. We found the hashpoint without difficulty and took a few photos. As we were turning back, a farmer in a black pickup pulled a U-turn and stopped to check whether my dad needed help. He noticed us pretty quickly, though, and said, "I see what your problem is," pointing at the two of us in the field. He drove away and up a driveway; it seemed possible that he had left home only to see what we were doing.

The trip home was uneventful, though we had to do some last-minute recalculations to save the Tron achievement. Even a road closed by sewer failure did not keep us from finishing the job.
