As we left town for our anniversy getaway weekend in Silverton, I sheepishly mentioned to Mrs.5000 that I had an idea for something that might not seem especially romantic. "You know how I've talked about geohashing? Well, there's a really accessible set of coordinates in Salem tomorrow. It would be about a hour there and back....." "That sounds great!" she said enthusiastically, reminding me why I married her. Mrs.5000 is way cool.

From our B&B, the trip was across the extra-lovely rolling farmlands east of Oregon's state capital, and then its not-so-lovely suburban fringes. I was of course totally wired for my first ever geohash! Mrs.5000, after various expressions of enthusiasm for the trip and the scenery, gently dozed in the passenger's seat.

The hash was just on the property line of a mint green home with a big ol' NO TRESPASSING sign in the window. As a suspicious looking neighbor with a big truck looked on, Mrs.5000 took a few pictures of me posing next to a bush on the edge of the easement. We took a walk around the block, and that was that! Our first geohash, on the ninth anniversary of the day we met.

With such an easy-to-reach hash, we thought we might run into other geohashers (Mrs.5000, who has never actually looked at this Wiki, envisioned a mob of 50 or so people converging on the hapless homeowner), but from 3:50 to 4:05 we were the only people around who didn't belong to the neighborhood.
