Expedition

Of all the geohashing attempts I've taken so far, this is the one I'm least proud of. When I was looking this location after it was posted, I appreciated that it wasn't too far from my house, but right away it was clear it would be impossible to reach. The location itself was on a road that looped around a house, meaning I'd probably have to be 10 steps from their kitchen window if I really wanted to reach it. Despite this setback, I decided I wasn't doing anything better with my lazy Sunday afternoon, and it was worth it to check it out just so I could tick off another step towards the Posted achievement.

The drive out was simple, although I was surprised to find that the house was on a rough dirt road that gave the car quite a jolt at times. There were a few very nice barns in the area too, which added to the rustic feel. Eventually, I found what appeared to be the driveway I had seen on Google Maps, and as I thought, there was no way I could just waltz on down their driveway to see what the geohash spot behind their house looked like. The house itself was somewhat guarded by trees from the road, but I've included a picture below of the direction of the geohash without actually showing the house, since I didn't want to be a paparazzi creep.

Now some among you, my esteemed fellow geohashers, may dispute that 200 meters, the closest I got to the spot, is really not that close at all, and taking a consolation prize out of this to count towards the Posted achievement is a bit much. I understand your argument, but I would counter with this: I proceeded to the geohash only to be stopped once I had reached what was clearly private property. Is that not exactly the spirit of the achievement, even if the closest I could get wasn't close at all? I don't know, maybe there's no one that would argue with that. I just feel a bit insecure about it so I wanted to clarify my thoughts.

On a side note, it must be so nice to live in a country where there's freedom to roam. So many geohash attempts in this area are bound to be deterred by private property, I wonder when I'll ever record another successful one again. Oh well, patience is the key.
