Expedition

The rule of New Zealand geohashes seems to be: hashes that look hard are very hard. Hashes that look easy are impossible.

We drove, EB a reluctant accomplice, preferring this over being abandoned at a campsite beside some creepy ruins and possibly creepier people. Can't blame her.

We stopped for photos at Lindis Pass, the mid-summer attempt at sunset turning into a very half-hearted warmish glow that extends for hours.

We turned down Ardgour Road, making jokes with a stupid French accent that what were doing "eez verrry, verry 'ardgour!"

We turned into the road which, lacking signage of any kind, had just enough plausible deniability that it could be mistaken for a public road, but realistically was probably a private farm service road. The further we went, the dodgier it felt.

We got to the point where I would need to walk still quite some distance on foot, in the direction of buildings, leaving EB in the car.

Virgin graticule or no, this didn't seem like the right thing to do, so back we went.
