Planning

Daniel and Lachlan had plans to go for a bike ride on Saturday regardless of geohashes. Lachlan's gravel bike is very worn out and had been aggressively trying to buck him off throughout the last two geohashes. Lachlan's rear roadbike wheel has cracks around the rim. Daniel has problems similar to Lachlan's wheel. With Lachlan relegated to Olmo the single speed and Daniel distance-hesistant, they decided on a short, flat ride. Perhaps a cruise along the beach or the Djerring Trail.

At 6am Lachlan checked the geohash and all plans changed. Lachlan plotted a 90/180km route to Pyalong and they were off.

Expedition

Lachlan and Daniel rode from their houses and met up in Northcote. From there they road up the St. George's Road Bike Path which is excellent, then along High Street which is adequate. After Epping the shoulder got narrower, the headwind got gnarly and the hills appeared.

This ride might have been Dan's first geohash so Lachlan filled him in on the rules. Daniel then explained a different game "Half Geohashing" where the aim is not to get to the Geohash, just to get half way there. Lachlan explained that documenting geohashing failures was standard practice but Daniel insisted that getting halfway was a success.

Despite Lachlan's attempts to ignore Daniels hints, Daniel turned around somewhere around Wollert.

Lachlan continued on and had first lunch in Wandong. After Wondong the hills became much more pronounced. They were nothing particularly large, but on a single speed they were slow work that required the active participation of all four limbs at all times.

Lachlan stashed his bike in the bushes by the side of the road, wandered into the paddock and found the hash and returned to the bike. Geohash success. Total time on foot was three minutes and three seconds.

The good thing about Pyalong is it's very close to Tooborac Brewery. Lachlan had visited on a cycle tour once before, probably with some other geohashes, but had little in the way of memories.
