On the side of the trail, near our exit

Rhonda saw the face in the tree and her reaction was so strong that Robyn thought she'd seen a bear or a cougar. While Robyn and Rhonda were looking at it, a jogger stopped and thought the same thing: that the two of us were looking at some wildlife.

The holes in the stump show that it was cut down the old fashioned way, when loggers put springboards in the stump so they could stand on them and not have to saw through the flared part of the stump. This area was first logged maybe a hundred years ago, but now it's a park.
