:::: Better than trekking out to Lisbon, OH.  We could always meet in their ''front'' yard and call it good.  (If not, I'll probably see you next Sat in Moon.  *waves to Pez*) --[[User:Syzygy|Syzygy]] 14:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Two Graticules

Hooray, a page for Pittsburgh!

Perhaps we could choose the most convenient of the two points for Saturdays.

West Graticule (lon -80.xxx): Includes West End, Airport/Moon/Coraopolis area, most of the Beaver Valley, North WV Panhandle, and Youngstown. Mostly land, easy to reach by interstate. High likelihood of a point in the middle of nowhere. (For instance, today's location is well past Steubenville.)

East Graticule (lon -79.xxx): Includes much of Pittsburgh, Monroeville, Greensburg, and part of Indiana County. This would usually be more convenient for most of the region, but also covers some of the less desirable East End neighborhoods and suburbs.

North/South Pittsburgh and Butler are pretty much split.

As for me, I'm on summer break and have nothing better to do, so I may join once in a while. I live in the North Hills area, right on the line. 66.212.135.123 03:46, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm taking a summer class and do have better things to be doing... but it's so enticing I can't help myself. Tim P 04:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

What if the main Pittsburgh page just links to the (not yet created) "East Pittsburgh" and "West Pittsburgh" pages... and then each Saturday everyone can chose to go to whichever seems the closer/better/more-feasible location? --Cahlroisse 06:05, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I think we could increase turnout by having everyone agree to one location. I'm not sure how many xkcd'ers live in the area, and how many of those would be willing to do something like this. There may be more than I expect, in which case it wouldn't matter. However, I would be surprised if more than two or three show up to each location.
Perhaps as a general rule, we could tentatively suggest using the coordinate which has longitude between -79.5 and -80.5? And if it falls right on x.5, we'll have someone "official" flip a coin! Tim P 22:42, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Addendum to that, if the above happens to, say, fall in a river (unlikely, but possible), we could then use collective judgment and head to the other one. Tim P 22:43, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Personally, for "small" bodies of water I'm a fan of the "nearest shoreline as the crow flies" method. But of course, it's up to the collective group. Other than that, I like the "-79.5 to -80.5" idea. MikeH 08:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

The May 31, 2008 Saturday geohash was about 10 miles south of Washington, PA (in the 40, -79 graticule). It was up a hill through the woods and in a clearing near private property. Two of us made it there, but were disappointed to find that no one else showed. Hopefully the June 7th geohash is more accessible and we get a better turnout. P.S. - I hope I didn't get any poison ivy! KellyM 23:46, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

My girlfriend and I are definitely going to try for the June 7th one. I might try to convince a few other friends as well. MikeH 20:09, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I may try to attend, but as I lack a GPS device (So I'd just use the google map and 'wing it') and I have tickets to the JoCo concert that evening, as well as there will be plenty of Game 7 parties going on (I hope), I can see turn out for this one not being as great either...--Psychopez 12:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
