Allow me to propose a format for this page:
Section 1
Stuff about meet-ups and locations.
Add a new sub-section for each date about which you wish to comment.
I'll try and keep it clean, by moving old months to a sub-pages.
Section 2
...I haven't worked out yet what should go here. Let's leave it open.

Map
What appears to be a public road just off the highway. Quite easy to get to.
  • If you check the satellite image, which tends to be more accurate, it's actually right on the road. Anyone up for a trip? (Probably not my car, I've driven that way too recently.) Matty 12:02, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Ayr
Map
In a cane field (?) just off the highway at Guthalungra, about 2 hours from Townsville.

Map
Right on the hill behind Lavarack. There's one of those foot paths right to the point. If only we knew an AJ who could get us onto the base...

Someone with a bit of adventure in their soul could attempt this one. It's near Keelbottom Creek, out along Hervey's Range Development Road. According to the satellite images, there's a paved road to some sort of building in a clearing *, which gets you within 500m of the point. Probably private property, but also probably worth a look, if you're heading out that way. Google says about 55-60km from my place.
* Very well-made road, with a decent bridge over the creek; helipad; clearing with building and roads. Feels quite military, or possibly a mine.

Townsville
Map
The longitude is right, but we'd need a boat to get that far north. Anyone got a boat?
Charters Towers
Map
Looks like a lovely hike, about a click off the highway out near Ravenswood. There's even a bit of a dry creekbed to follow, if you prefer the shade.
  • If I had a GPS unit, some fuel, and wasn't in the process of moving house, I'd give it a go. Matty
Abergowrie
Map
Here you go YWE, looks like Abergowrie might be accessible, as long as you're up for a little rainforest hike. (No fear, it looks like no more of a challenge than our Giru trip.)
  • Again, if someone with a GPS didn't mind taking me for a longish drive, and I wasn't moving house... *sigh* Matty

Townsville
Totally Inaccessable unless you want to walk a really long way!
Clark River
Map
About 8km off the Harveys Range Developmental Road near a tributory of the Burdekin River. There are some tracks in the area which indicate somebody with a $WD may be able to access although they don't look suitable for a sedan. The tributory will probably be filled with water at the moment.

Townsville
Map
This looks reasonably doable. Up behind the dam in amongst a series of properties that fall just off the Old Flinders Highway. There are a number of dirt roads that follow property boundries to about 200m from the site. The site appears to be on private property but it is probably worth a look anyway considering it is so close to the dam it may not be.
Twistie is going to try and make it with some friends.

Miscellaneous

Hi Twistie. Do I know you? Matty

Hey, I dunno. I'm a first year IT student at JCU. I have a feeling I have heard your name before but I'm just not sure. -- Twistie

Page Structure

I think it's good having the Saturday map links on the main page, and a brief description for the current/past ones. However, as Simon suggested, I'm quite happy for ephemeral discussions (about attempting hashes and stuff) to live here on the discussion page. If anyone else wants to update the Current Meetup Location section early on Saturdays, you're most welcome. Also, when we start running out of upcoming Saturdays, feel free to chuck in another months' worth of links. Matty
